Funding

We encourage teaching innovation and research, and there are schemes available at the University to help support this.

Each year the University’s Centre for Higher Education Research, Innovation and Learning (CHERIL) funds projects relating to teaching enhancement, learning, and assessment in Higher Education.

CHERIL oversees two competitive awards.

CHERIL Grant Awards (up to £20,000)

The CHERIL Grant Award is a competitive research grant open to University of Manchester staff. The grant aims to enhance teaching and the student experience at the University by facilitating research into aspects of teaching, learning and assessment. CHERIL awards up to £20,000 (although smaller grants are more usually awarded). For more information, and how to apply, please see the CHERIL web pages.

Teaching Excellence Awards (£5,000 bursary)

The Teaching Excellence Awards are a competitive financial award, which celebrates outstanding teaching. Nominations usually open in January, with winners announced in the summer.

Award holders receive a £5,000 bursary (to be spent over a three year period) to fund enhancements to their teaching.
