Training in teaching skills

There are many opportunities to develop and enhance your teaching and learning skills through the Academy.

Our Pedagogy and Staff Development Programme, which focuses on the theory and practice of teaching, is here to support you with all aspects of teaching and learning and can be accessed freely by everyone who contributes to our programmes.

Each month, the programme will focus on a different strategic priority area informed by teaching evaluations and student surveys. You can access past materials on our staff development blog.

Our programmes have been designed and developed around the teaching and learning framework and aim to enhance the student experience.

These priorities have also been grouped into a development framework organised into four areas:

  • student experience
  • teaching quality and delivery
  • learning environment
  • your teaching practice.

Each month, CPD activities will focus on a domain of the framework. You are able to access as little or as much as you would like. If time is short you can access a one minute CPD, however, if you would like to explore an area in more detail then attend a masterclass.

If there are areas that you and your colleagues would like the programme to focus on then please contact us at educationacademy@manchester.ac.uk

Types of learning available:

You will have the opportunity to share your best practice through developing resources to populate the Pedagogy and Staff Development Programme.

The strategic focus of the programme will also align to internal and external drivers (i.e. promotion criteria, NSS, TEF, external regulators, periodic review data etc).  It will also link in to the recognition of teaching excellence through Faculty, University and National level teaching awards.

All of our training and development opportunities can be found on our staff development blog. Here, you can see the events for the year ahead and have access to podcasts and videos from previous sessions.
